ABOUT

Good Old-Fashioned Lovers: A Good Omens Zine is an unofficial fan-made charity zine where we reimagine our favorite romantic comedies as Aziraphale and Crowley from Good Omens, through (mainly) movie posters!Whether they're humans or still an angel and demon duo, our intention with this zine is to create posters to already existing movies and replace the characters of said movies with characters from the Good Omens franchise! Beyond these movie posters, we also want to include fanfiction, comics, or double page spread pieces based on romantic comedy movies/tropes as well. This project will be a physical non-profit project. Any profit made from the zine after producution and shipping costs will be going to Doctors Without Borders!According to their website, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) "offers medical humanitarian assistance to people based solely on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation."

FAQ

QuestionAnswer
What is a Fanzine?A Fanzine (pronounced ZEEN) by definition is a magazine, usually produced by amateurs, for fans of a particular performer, group, or form of entertainment. It can be in either print form or pdf. Our zine will be available in both forms and likely have an option to purchase additional merch such as prints and stickers as well!
Is there a minimum age requirement to apply for the zine? You need to be 16+ to apply to this zine.
Do I have to have/use Discord to be in this zine?Yes. You will be fully expected to make a discord if you do not have one for correspondence.
Will this be a physical zine, with merch? It completely depends on the interest check, but this is our intention!
Can I apply for more than one role?Yes, but it's likely you will only be accepted for one role.
Can people from other countries contribute? You can participate from anywhere.
Are any certain art programs required? Not really! Even traditional art is allowed, as long as you make sure to have a good scanner or photos with scanner quality.
Do I need to have an established presence online?Established online presences aren't necessary. Just a portfolio of some kind.
For a contributor, what kind of example work are you looking for?The specific guidelines for each kind of contributor will be available to read on the form. Brief rundown: For page/spot art: Finished illustrations. We want to see that you have the ability to do compositions, as well as the ability to finish pieces. For merch artists: Finished merch designs or designs that look like they can make good merch. If you don't have merch experience, provide colored illustrations. Writers: Ideally: written samples, with a minimum of 2k words. Could be a chapter excerpt, could be a completed one-shot. *Having drawn or written Good Omens characters is not necessary, but it is massively appreciated.
Do merch artists get assigned their merch or do they pitch what they want to do.You will be assigned one of the merch items from the ones you check off while applying. You can pitch something not on the list on the application too.
What is a spot artist?A spot artist is an artist that will do smaller scale illustrations for the fics in the zine. These artists are expected to do small images with transparent backgrounds relating to the fics. A spot artist will be assigned to every fic writer.
What is a pinch hitter?Pinch hitters are applicants who we have on a waiting list if a contributor were to drop out. You can opt-in to be a pinch hitter during the application process (and are at liberty to refuse if we ask you to participate.)
Is this zine SFW?Yes. This zine is SFW.
How many contributors will be allowed in the project? This answer will be updated after applications end.
What is the overall size/aspect ratio of the zine? The book will be 5.5" x 8.5" in full color.
How much would the zine cost?Physical bundles will vary based on what merch we decide on, but physical books on their own will be $25 (with PDFs being ~$20.)
Will contributors receive a zine?If the project moves on to be a physical product, we expect contributors will get a free copy of the zine. Anything beyond that is dependent on preorder sales.
From where will the zine be shipped? The book will be shipped from the United States.
Which characters are allowed on the zine?Any Good Omens characters from season 1 or 2 are okay (especially if a particular movie poster has more than two characters), but the main focus should be the Ineffable Duo!
Can Aziraphale and Crowley be depicted with any gender presentation? We encourage any and all presentations for these two.
Can Aziraphale and Crowley be interpreted as other beings (i.e. non-human creatures?)Yeah, that's fine.
Do the romantic comedies have to be US movies? No. You can select romcoms from other countries too! We have no problems with this.
Are we allowed to do movies that aren’t necessarily in the rom com genre, but kinda have implied romantic aspects? While we may allow certain romance films depending on the pitch, we are looking for romantic comedies specifically.
Would the contributors be assigned with a romcom, or can they choose themselves which ones to use?You can choose a romcom, but if you plan to do a movie poster, you may be asked to change due to repeats.
Can I pick an animated rom-com or does it have to be live action?Animated rom-coms are totally fine!
Are these just romcom movies, or tv shows, books, comics, etc.?We'll be focusing on romcom movies and tv shows, BUT we can evaluate ideas from other romcoms you may have in mind that don't fall into the movie category.
You mentioned the art is mainly movie posters, but what about screenshot redraws?Screenshot redraws are alright, we would prefer your interpretations of certain movie scenes you have in mind.
Are black and white movies ok?Yes.
